We collaborated with the Flynns on a few custom pieces for their new home.
We designed and built the island to feel more like a freestanding piece of furniture with room for their four children. The island countertop is reclaimed boxcar flooring, which Chris lightly sanded to remove the dirt and grim, but still has the character and markings from use as a train car. We recommended the removal of a couple of cabinets for some open shelving. For the open shelves, he used reclaimed brown ash and welded a simple bracket. The whitewashed barn doors cover their entry way coat closet. The metal bracing is a Shutze Studio original detail and Chris also fabricated the track.
