Suar Dining Table & Cantilever Bench
On our honeymoon..
We were told that tradition is to buy art. So instead, we bought two slabs of raw Indonesian Suar wood.
This 5' thick slab of Suar wood made a beautiful table top and there is a large split down the middle I chose to highlight. One end of the split was quite large so I used a plasma cut piece of steel to float in the middle so a plate wouldn't fall through and inserted a rod through the middle to keep the wood from warping. I designed the welded steel base to be very simple to keep attention on the wood.
The Indonesian wood from which this came was super thick. 6" roughly. So I sliced it vertically and horizontally to get 4 pieces this size. This piece wanted to be a bench.
